On behalf of Josef Martinz, Minister for Alps-Adriatic-, European- Tourism- and Economic Affairs of Land Kärnten/Carinthia and on behalf of Wolfgang Platzer, the new head of the Carinthian Alps-Adriatic Branch Office and General Secretary of the Alps-Adriatic Working Community, we would like to cordially welcome you to the conference "Tourism and new media in the Alps-Adriatic Area" on October 8th, 2010 in Klagenfurt am Wörthersee (Carinthia). The event, organized by the Alps-Adriatic Branch Office at the regional government of Carinthia will focus on the opportunities of the Alps-Adriatic area in the global tourism competition in the context of new media.

| Alps-Adriatic-Sculptures under an open Sky | |

“Word-Power-Form” was the motto of the 9th Alps-Adriatic Sculpture Symposium which took place in Maria Saal (Carinthia) from the 15th to the 24th of July 2010. The symposium´s idea was to create an experimental interface between visual arts and literature. Therefore artists from the Alps-Adriatic area created sculptures made from wood inspired by texts of the Austrian writer Peter Turrini.

| 800 young athletes at the Alps-Adriatic Summer Games

From the 22nd to the 24th of June 2010 the 14th Alps-Adriatic Youth Summer Games took place in the province of Pordenone (Friuli-Venezia Giulia). Almost 800 young people below the age of 17 from the ten member regions of the Alps-Adriatic Working Community met for competitions in swimming, athletics, volleyball, basketball, and a chess tournament. The most successful athletes came from Slovenia: They won 41 of 163 possible medals.

| St. Kanzian hosted 3rd Alps-Adriatic-Arts Symposium | |

From the 7th to the 12th of June 2010 the Southern Carinthian town of St. Kanzian hosted the third Alps-Adriatic-Arts Symposium. 22 artists from Hungary, Italy, Slovenia, Croatia, Romania, Slovakia, Austria and Great Britain were working under the open sky where they inspired themselves by the spectacular landscape and established new cross-border contacts.

| Flussi Diversi - Poetry in Alps-Adriatic Diversity | |

For the third time Caorle (Veneto) hosted “Flussi Diversi” where poets from Italy, Austria, Slovenia, Hungary, Croatia, Slovakia and the Czech Republic met on the last weekend of May. The symposium was organized by the Expert Group of the Cultural Heritage of the Alps-Adriatic Working Community and the cultural department of the City of Caorle.

INCLUSIA 2010 – where diversity is the norm

From the 20th to the 22nd of April 2010 almost 1.000 young people with and without disabilities met in Klagenfurt am Wörthersee (Carinthia) to celebrate "INCLUSIA 2010”. The participants came from the member regions of the Alps-Adriatic Working Community and from Bosnia-Herzegovina, Germany and Switzerland.
40 school classes from Klagenfurt participated in this event and welcomed young people with different disabilities in order to spend a day in school together. The aim was to live inclusion instead of integration.
INCLUSIA is a project of the PG Disability Network and will be continued next year.

Alpine-Convention implements Working Group on „Demography and Employment“ | |

The 10th Alpine Conference, which was held in Evian/France in March 2009, decided to establish a working group on demographic changes, regional development and employment in the Alpine Space. Chaired by social anthropologist Pier Paolo Viazzo the working group met for the first Time in Torino in January 2010. The main goal will be the issuing of a report on demographic change in the Alps and its impact on the labour market and employment. Since “Demography and Employment” is part of the implementation process of the declaration on Population and Culture, the Alps-Adriatic Working Community, an observer of the Alpine Convention is also participating in the working group.
